| The report is a simulated C-E simultaneous interpreting based on the speech delivered by Li Bin,chairman of the Dandelion Education Think Tank and editor-in-chief of New Principal magazine,at the 8thEducational Innovation Conference of China in 2021.The speech points out that in the context of profound changes of the times,Chinese education should get back on track and targeted improvement measures should be taken to ensure its high-quality development,which demonstrates the future development direction of Chinese education.In this speech,the speaker employs a great deal of complex and diverse parallelism to highlight the current problems faced by Chinese education and its prospects,exhibiting strong personal emotions.However,the frequent use of parallelism also poses difficulties for the interpreter to understand,convert and output,resulting in low-quality interpretation that cannot satisfy the needs of the target audience.On the basis of the unique characteristics of the source text and the types of parallelism,the report divides the interpreting difficulties caused by parallelism into two categories:1)difficulties induced by phrasal parallelism;2)difficulties induced by clausal parallelism.Aiming at the above-mentioned difficulties,the interpreter puts forward corresponding interpreting tactics under the guidance of the Skopos Theory.In accordance with the three rules of the Skopos Theory,namely the Skopos rule,the coherence rule,and the fidelity rule,the interpreter needs to consider the language habits of the target audience and the communicative purpose of the speaker when processing the source text.Through post-interpretation reflection,the interpreter proposes six corresponding coping tactics:1)reconstructing,conversion and paraphrasing for difficulties in phrasal parallelism;2)combination,simplification and paraphrasing for difficulties in clausal parallelism.In conclusion,the report is designed to address the difficulties caused by parallelism in interpreting.It is hoped that the report can provide new perspectives and references for other interpreters to respond to such difficulties. |
