At present,how to cultivate students’ core literacy has attracted much attention in the educational circle.Core literacy focuses on the comprehensive development of students’ knowledge ability,application skills,emotional attitude and values.With the proposal of the core quality of English subject,the cultivation of cultural awareness has become the focus of English teaching in addition to the basic English knowledge teaching.According to the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),the cultivation of cultural awareness helps students to enhance their feelings of home and country,improve their cultural literacy and increase their own connotation.It shows that the excellent traditional Chinese culture is closely related to the cultivation of students’ core quality of English subject.As an important part of English teaching,primary school English reading teaching is the key to cultivate students’ English reading ability and cultural awareness.Therefore,primary school English teachers should consider incorporating Chinese excellent traditional culture into English reading teaching.The author believes that,from the perspective of core literacy,how to integrate Chinese excellent traditional culture into primary school English reading teaching is a new problem worth studying.However,through literature review,it is found that the current research on the integration of excellent traditional Chinese culture into primary school English reading teaching is not ideal.Therefore,this study aims to explore strategies for integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture into the whole process of English reading teaching in primary schools from the perspective of core literacy,and show how excellent traditional Chinese culture is integrated into English reading teaching in primary schools more intuitively by combining specific teaching examples,hoping to provide theoretical and practical references for front-line teachers.Based on constructivism learning theory,cross-cultural communication theory and Krashen second language acquisition theory,this study combines the physical and mental development characteristics and cognitive level of primary school students as well as the relevant contents of excellent traditional Chinese culture,and adopts literature research method,questionnaire survey method,interview method and classroom observation method to study the following three questions:1.From the perspective of core literacy,what is the current situation of integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture into English reading teaching in X Primary School of Nanning City?2.What are the problems of integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture into English reading teaching in X Primary School of Nanning City? And what are the reasons behind the problems?3.How to integrate the excellent traditional Chinese culture into the English reading teaching in primary schools?Through investigation and research,it is found that there are some problems in integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture into primary school English reading teaching.The main problems are as follows:(1)insufficient degree of integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture into primary school English reading teaching;(2)Western culture is the main input of cultural knowledge;(3)there is less content of excellent traditional Chinese culture in the textbook;(4)lack of content of excellent traditional Chinese culture in the test.The reasons are as follows:(1)the lack of theoretical and practical guidance from the education sector;(2)the impact of English-speaking cultures on traditional culture;(3)the target understanding of "cultural awareness" is left on the surface;(4)the knowledge reserve and cultural literacy of teachers need to be improved.Based on this,the author proposes the following strategies:(1)Increase the content of excellent traditional Chinese culture in textbooks;(2)improve the scope and evaluation system of primary school English tests;(3)improve teachers’ knowledge reserve and traditional Chinese cultural literacy;(4)improve the process of integrating into reading teaching.Combined with specific teaching cases,this study hopes to provide front-line teachers with some references on the integration of excellent traditional Chinese culture into primary school English reading teaching.
