Problems And Countermeasures Of Online Chinese Teaching For Beginning Learners

The novel coronavirus epidemic broke out in 2020.Online courses has become more and more popular.Then,the problems of online international Chinese teaching have gradually emerged.When we are engaged in online teaching for students who have never learnt Chinese before,we find that the advantages and disadvantages of online courses are more prominent.Therefore,taking the basic class of Confucius Institute at University of Porto as an example,we deeply discuss the problems and coping strategies of online Chinese teaching for the beginning Chinese learners.Combing the previous research on online Chinese teaching,and summarizing problems in teaching practice,we search for similarities and differences between normal Chinese teaching and online Chinese teaching for beginning learners.We design questionnaires and interview outlines according to the common and special problems to know the different views and suggestions of students of Confucius Institute at University of Porto and online Chinese teachers.Then we sort out the results,analyze the problems and summarizes the countermeasures.Chinese learning of the beginning learnners is different to ordinary Chinese learning.There are many problems like lack of practice,too much dependence on pinyin,neglect of reading and writing,difficult to learn pronunciation and so on.Online teachers who teach beginning learners also have problems in communicating with students.So teachers should pay attention to reading and writing,emphasis the use of quizlet and other applications to help students to learn Chinese characters and words.At present,there are other problems such as lake of experiences,lake of the types of courses,different class sizes,lack of targeted training for teachers,and lack of curriculum-related communication among teachers.Online Chinese teachers should be trained on many types including language,culture,teaching skills,etc.applicable to the Confucius Institute.At the same time,the Confucius Institute,teachers and students should strengthen communication to mature the Confucius Institute online courses.
