Inquiry And Analysis Of The Current Situation Of The Teaching Of Chinese Language In The Confucius Institute Of The University Of Lisbon In Portugal

The so called “Hot Chinese” is already a worldwide phenomena with a ever great importance inside the teaching of foreign languages.China alongside other countries around the world have already firmly engaged in all sort of cooperation's that grow in importance everyday,let it be political,economical,cultural etc.These cooperation's have also expanded to the educational area with the teaching and learning of the Chinese language becoming a necessity on today's societies.From 2006 until this present day Portugal has already established a total of four Confucius Institutes.Among these institutes the Confucius Institute in the University of Lisbon has solidified itself as the main model when it comes to promoting the traditional Chinese culture and the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.Even though the teaching of the Chinese language in Portugal has demonstrated an astonishing and rapid growth,we cannot but help ourselves to encounter some problems that have yet to be thoroughly investigated and solved,whereas regarding the organization of the classes,the scheduling of the class time,the materials used to teach,the training and specialization of the teachers among other problems.Previously very few people have instigated the current situation of the teaching of the Chinese language in Portugal,moreover,when it comes to the Confucius Institute of the University of Lisbon we discover that this number comes to a full zero.As so,in order to better promote the teaching of the Chinese language in Portugal,to have a thorough and complete program that can help the future to better adapt to the circumstances of the students in Portugal,to have a better administration of the Confucius Institute in the University of Lisbon and to correspond to the compliance's of the students regarding the better learning of the Chinese language.This thesis will firstly summarize the development of the Confucius Institute in the University of Lisbon,secondly it will summarize the current situation of the teaching inside the Institute and lastly it will analyze the inquires made to the students and teachers as well as present the results of the interview made with the Chinese director of the Institute.The inquires will focus on the way the classes are organized,the materials used,the method of teaching,the needs of the students and the teachers as well as present some ways that could incentive the students tofurther proceed with their studies of the language,the cultural events organized by the Institute and how to improve them etc.In a final note,this investigation will through the analyses of the inquires made to the students and the teachers of the Institute bring about some suggestions that could help them solve these existing problems.
