Traumatised children serving as a special group in society need to be treated and assisted properly in terms of education.Teachers and schools play a significant role in helping traumatised children return to mainstream schooling.Calmer classrooms:A guide to working with traumatised children systematically introduces traumatised children’s behavioral difficulties and causes and encourages teachers and schools to adopt the relationship-based approach to unleash their educational potential.Translating this guide into Chinese might give educators in China inspiration and help traumatised children adapt to classrooms and recover from trauma better. The report consists of four parts. The first part describes the translation task, including the source of the translation material, the work’s profile, the author’s profile and the significance of the material. The second part elaborates the process of translation, focusing on the preparation for the translation, difficulties in the translation process and the revision after the translation. The third part presents an analysis of the translation cases.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory proposed by Peter Newmark, the author of the report analyzes the typical translation cases from the lexical, syntactic and textual aspects by adopting the method of literal translation combined with free translation method. The methods of conversion and extension and quadrisyllabic word are employed to translate words in the source text.In terms of sentences, the author of the report adopts the methods of division, inversion and amplification to make the target text more readable. At the discourse level, the methods of repetition and combination are used to achieve textual cohesion and coherence. The fourth part summarizes the experience and inspiration gained from the translation practice. The author of the report not only has a deeper understanding of traumatised children, but also has a new view on the application of the translation theory, the preparation for translation and the ethics of translators through this translation practice.Firstly, the communicative translation theory could be applied to the translation of information-loaded texts and help translators choose appropriate methods of translation to ensure the quality of translation. In addition, translators should make full preparations before translation and exhaustively research the professional terms and culture-loaded words, thus choosing the best expression.Lastly, translators should increase their awareness of interdisciplinary study and extend their reservoirs of knowledge to satisfy society’s new demands for translators in the future. |
