| The great advancement of civil aviation industry in China and the increased scale of professional training have brought up a challenge for the existing teaching and training resources.Under these circumstances,the Civil Aviation English Research Center of Civil Aviation University of China(CAUC)established a project of translating Principles of Flight for Pilots,a book that explains principles of aerodynamics in significant depth with an accessible approach,and provides reliable up-to-date reference for student pilots.This report is based on the translation process of chapter 14,“Climb and Descent Aerodynamics” of Principles of Flight for Pilots.According to the study of Text Typology,the source text belongs to the classification of informative text,of which the function is presenting facts,information,knowledge and opinions through concise expressions.From the perspective of content,the source text mainly deals with professional knowledge and principles of aviation& aeronautical engineering,mechanical engineering,and mechanics,hence a large number of terminology and semi-technical words.Grammatically speaking,the text is characterized by the extensive use of passive voice,present tense,and complex sentences.In view of these characteristics,the translator made special efforts to ensure the conciseness,accuracy,regularization,and logic of the translation.This report aims to explore the effective approach of improving readability while ensuring the accuracy and conciseness of the original texts.Strategies and techniques are discussed and examples analyzed through case-studying.It is sincerely hoped that this report could make a modest contribution to EST(English for Science and Technology)translation studies in the future. |
