A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Principles Of Flight For Pilots(Chapter16)

This article is a report on the translation practice of Chapter 16 of Principles of Flight for Pilots.The translation project of Principles of Flight for Pilots is an English-Chinese translation project of Civil Aviation English Research Center of Civil Aviation University of China(CAUC)that came into being for the professional development of civil aviation practitioners and the cultivation of aviation talents.The author of this report is one of the translators of this translation project.This translation practice was conducted under the guidance of the Theoretic System of Pragmatic Translatology(TSPT)and its methodology of complete translation.At the macro level,the translation purpose,objects,subjects,and the expected receivers were analyzed and the methodology of complete translation was chosen as the specific guidance of the translation activity.At the middle level,relative translation strategies under methodology of complete translation were chosen,which is not only the concretization of the macro principles,but also the guidance of the usage of micro techniques.When it comes to the micro level,complete translation techniques were used to offer direct guidance for the translation practice.The faithfulness and smoothness of the translation are improved by virtue of the micro techniques.This report reflects the translation process from three perspectives,which are translation task description,translation process,and case study respectively.After the translation,the author sees an increase in her translation competence and hope that this translation practice under the guidance of TSPT can provide references for other translators’ translation of civil aviation technical documents.
