A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Fundamentals Of International Aviation(Chapter 2)

Currently,with the rapid development,China’s civil aviation is in a critical period to accrue its strength.As the demand for civil aviation talents is increasing significantly,it is necessary to gain advanced training experience from abroad,introduce textbooks and teaching materials for the training and preparation of the future labor force.Translators play a crucial role in the process of localizing foreign literature and other language services.This report is based on the actual translation process of the Canadian textbook,Fundamentals of International Aviation(Chapter2 Aircraft)and aims to explore the translation methods and skills of civil aviation technical texts with reference to Reiss’ s Text Typology theoryThe report consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the source text and the significance of the translation task.Chapter 2 elaborates on the whole translation process from three aspects,pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation.Chapter 3 centers on Katharine Reiss’ s Text Typology theory and its application in translating technical texts.In Chapter 4 case study,under the guidance of Katharine Reiss’ s Text Typology theory,the author mainly discusses the translation method of conversion of word class at lexical level.At syntactical level,the author mainly adopts the method of sentence split,reconstruction and voice conversion.At textual level,the author proposes coherence and stylistic consistency are the major concern.The final chapter is a summary of findings and limitations in this translation project.This report illustrates how to improve the accuracy,technical specialty and readability in translating the civil aviation technical texts based on its translation practice and the case analysis in the hope of providing references for the relevant civil aviation translators.
