Xi’an Textile City was built in the 1950 s and included a number of key projects during the "First Five-Year Plan" period. It was once the main textile industry base in Xi’an and even the Northwest region. As the only printing and dyeing factory in Xi’an Textile City, the Northwest No.1 Printing and Dyeing Factory was once the largest and most concentrated printing and dyeing enterprise in China, and also the only all-round printing and dyeing enterprise in the printing and dyeing industry in Northwest China at that time.Around the 1990 s,with the gradual decline of the textile industry, the Northwest No.1 Printing and Dyeing Factory gradually fell into a state of shutdown. As a large number of industrial plants are preserved,it provides a broad space for artistic creation.A large number of artists gather here and form the Textile City Art District by transforming the space of the plants. However, due to poor results in the development and reuse of industrial heritage, the Baqiao District Government and Shaanxi Jingbang Cultural Development Co.,Ltd.rebuilt the art district on the basis of the original in 2012,and built Xi’an Banpo International Art District. However, the current development is not ideal, and there are many problems in the art district, including low spatial interaction, poor functional layout that cannot meet the diverse needs of users, monotonous space nodes that are not attractive to users, and traffic that is not fully considered Convenience and other issues. It has had a negative impact on the development of the art district. This paper takes Xi’an Banpo International Art District as an example to study the optimization strategy of its public space.Through on-the-spot research, interviews and literature, the development process of the art district and textile city is restored, the construction characteristics and industrial heritage value of the art district are excavated, and the characteristics of the construction age, architectural status, functional zoning, and spatial evolution of the art district are summarized and analyzed.By sorting out and summarizing the spatial layout of Banpo International Art District, sorting out the types of space, and selecting the public space with the largest proportion as the goal of optimization and improvement.Combined with excellent cases, the characteristics and deficiencies of the target space are analyzed horizontally, and according to the characteristics of the space, such as the nature, shape and constituent elements, the space nodes to be improved in the art district are classified and summarized. The author combines qualitative and quantitative methods, and based on the context difference method(SD method)in the questionnaire, transforms the psychological feelings of the respondents on the target space into intuitive data, and obtains the user’s perception of the Banpo International Art District.Perceptual evaluation of public space. The reliability of data and factor analysis are tested by SPSS software, and the principal components that affect the utilization rate of public space in the art district are identified. Finally,a concept design strategy is put forward for the factors with poor evaluation in the principal components, including optimizing the layout and design of public space, improving the atmosphere and vitality of public space, enriching the cultural connotation of public space, strengthening the equipment and maintenance of public facilities, etc.,aiming to increase the utilization rate of the public space in Banpo International Art District, and then form a point-driven way to stimulate the revitalization and development of the textile city.
