With the advent of consumer society and the penetration of consumer life into the urban space,urban renewal is inevitably influenced by social development.As a place of people’s daily life,urban space gradually presents the characteristics of commodification.Faced with the change of spatial attributes and transformation of production methods in the era of consumption,urban renewal should break through the surface problems and start from the inner renewal mechanism and production logic in order to discover the crux of urban problems and guide the sustainable development of cities.Among many types of urban spaces,commercial space,as an important type of urban space showing vitality,is not only a practical space reflecting the characteristics of the times and the current spatial concept,but also a place containing the daily consumption life of people from different classes.Compared with other types of spaces,it can have a more significant impact on the overall structure and layout of the city,its external expression and the daily life of the residents.Therefore,in today’s consumer era,it is particularly important to study the renewal of commercial spaces.This study takes the commercial spaces in the Huifang area of Xi’an as the research object.The commercial spaces in Huifang have undergone hundreds of years of evolution and have different renewal methods and logics in different periods,and the focus of this study is to sort out their spatial production logic in the context of the present consumer society.Secondly,through the analysis of the translation and development of the theory in the current consumer society,the production and consumption characteristics of space are clarified,and then extended to the logic of spatial production in urban renewal,and the framework of the study on the renewal mechanism of commercial space in Hui Fang is constructed.Based on this,the commercial spaces in Huifang are classified into three categories,namely,preservation and renovation,new construction and expansion,and continuity and dependence,based on the degree of regeneration,and a study of the physical,social,and economic conditions is conducted to clarify the characteristics of each type and summarize the production mode.Then,we return to the commercial space itself and analyze the production relationship,production process and production results of each type in detail with specific spatial examples,and finally summarize them into the renewal mechanism of each type.Taking this as the entry point,through the analysis and reference of excellent urban space regeneration cases at home and abroad,we summarize the current trend of urban space regeneration and the advantages and disadvantages of each regeneration mechanism,combine the same aspects of the cases with the commercial space of Huifang,optimize the current regeneration mechanism of Huifang commercial space,and propose specific regeneration strategies for the current material space in response to the actual spatial problems during the research.Through the study,it is found that different types of commercial spaces are influenced by different production subjects and have certain differences in their respective production logics.To renew them,it is necessary to comply with their respective spatial production logics,clarify the needs of each production subject,and combine the construction of the renewal system with the improvement of policies and regulations,which together have a positive impact on the renewal activities.
