As an important content of current technological innovation,artificial intelligence technology greatly affects people's daily production and life.The application of intelligent robots in industrial production will undoubtedly have an important impact on productivity.However,industrial robots are seen as an independent production factor input,its impact on the growth of the manufacturing industry is rarely concerned by scholars.The impact of industrial robots on the growth of manufacturing industry will be measured,and its mechanism based on China's inter-provincial industrial robot data is analyzed in this article.The industrial robot installation data published by CRIA is the mainly utilized in the article.Firstly,based on the full sample data,through the construction of a static panel model and a dynamic panel model,the impact of industrial robots on the growth of the manufacturing industry is demonstrated.Secondly,in view of the differences in the development of the manufacturing industry and the application of industrial robots in different provinces,based on the regional and industry perspectives,an empirical research is conducted to verify whether the impact of industrial robots on manufacturing growth is heterogeneous.Then,to analyze whether there is diminishing marginal return in the impact of industrial robots on manufacturing growth,a panel threshold model for empirical research is conducted in this paper.Finally,considering that industrial robots may affect manufacturing through Total Factor Productivity(TFP)Growth,this paper constructs a mediation test model to empirically study.In a summary,the following main research conclusions are shown as below:1)For every 1% increase in the installation of industrial robots,the output value of the manufacturing industry will increase by 0.6% on average;even considering the "inertia" of economic growth,the impact of industrial robots has reached 0.1% to0.4%.2)The application of industrial robots in different regions has heterogeneity on the growth of the manufacturing industry,the eastern and central regions have a more significant impact,and the western region has no significant impact.In addition,different industries also have different effects.The application of industrial robots has increased the growth of high-tech manufacturing more significantly than the growth of low-and medium-tech manufacturing.3)The impact of industrial robots on manufacturing growth has not yet shown a trend of diminishing marginal returns.The threshold regression results show that the usage of industrial robots has a positive and significant effect on the growth of the manufacturing industry before and after the threshold and shows a clear increasing trend of marginal returns.4)Part of the impact of industrial robots on manufacturing growth is a direct impact,and part of it is indirectly affected through the intermediary variable TFP;TFP as an intermediary effect explains 17.5% of the total effect,and the direct effect of industrial robots on manufacturing growth explains the total 82.45% of the effect.In addition,through further testing,it is found that the mediating effect of TFP on the application of industrial robots and the growth of manufacturing is mainly conducted through the technical progress index(TC),and the mediating effect of the technical efficiency index(EC)is not significant.Based on the above research conclusions,this article puts forward relevant policy recommendations in terms of support,supporting construction,and human capital.
