A Research On Story Writing In Commentary

News comments is a style of writing that gives guiding opinions on news facts and social phenomena,which has a strong public opinion guidance and social influence.With the update of media technology and journalism format,emerging audio and video comments has begun to compete with newspaper and periodical text comments for the attention of readers.In the age of attention economy,the power of words is being fully explored.The use of story to enrich comment writing is beneficial to the innovation of the comment structure,the renewal of comment appearance,and the improvement of readability.The practice of news story-based writing originated earlier in the United States.As an industry model,the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism also shows the reuse of story-based writing techniques in its op-ed commentary works,which is an excellent sample for the study of news story-based writing.In this paper,the author selects the critical works of Pulitzer's column in the past five years.According to the research needs,mainly using discourse analysis,case analysis and Content analysis,combining narrative arc theory and frame theory,this paper aims to study the characteristics of narrative writing through the translation and collation of the 2016-2020 op-ed articles.In the past five years,we have found that there is a tendency of narrative writing in Pulitzer's column comments,and news comments are structured in the form of stories,every news story has five stages:Exposition,rising action,crisis,Climax and ending,which breaks the logical reasoning form of the traditional commentary and uses the time clue to plan the layout,focusing on the plight of the vulnerable;again,the commentary focuses on the portrayal of characters,highlighting the poor,women and race as positive victims,and integrating the stories of similar characters;and finally,in terms of writing techniques,Pulitzer's commentary,which uses detailed descriptions,is heavily biased toward keywords that depict the weak,emphasizing multiple sources and direct quotes from people to strengthen the argument.
