Health is the fundamental guarantee for each individual to create a better life, and it is also an important foundation for each country to guarantee the people's livelihood.Obesity,as a hidden health risk,is both an independent disease and a cause of various chronic diseases. It has been widely concerned and highly valued by countries all over the world. In the era of vigorous development of online news, media of various countries combine with social reality, focus on obesity, and provide targeted information to the public, which is beneficial to the promotion of the health of the whole people. Therefore, this research interprets the obesity reports in the online news of the two mainstream media at home and abroad based on the framework theory and the mimic environment theory,it specifically selects obesity reports on the China Daily of China and the Guardian of UK from 2009 to 2018 as samples for content analysis. The study finds that Chinese media is dominated by news and picture news genres;authoritative and scientific sources are the main sources of the media, and these contents from other media are numerous;reporting tends to be neutral, and positive reports are more than negative reports;"medical, social research" is widely used reporting topics;the dominant framework is the "personal framework",which explains the occurrence and prevention of obesity from a personal perspective;the reports focus on child obesity and female obesity. There are some similarities and differences in obesity reports between British media and Chinese media.British media is dominated by news and comment genres;the sources are used similarly,British media also listening to professional, scientific, and authoritative voices;the objective reporting tendency is consistent with the Chinese media, but the number of positive reports is less than negative reports;"relevant knowledge information" is the main reporting theme;British media pay more attention to the "social framework",and the target of this framework is to get rid of obesity from personal responsibility and focus on social responsibility;children are the most focused group, however, apart from this group, there are not many accounts of obesity in other groups. In addition, the representation of the obese people is more comprehensively described by the Chinese media, including six images, and the number is much higher than that of British media. The innovation of this study is mainly reflected in two points: First, based on the idea of longitudinal period analysis,it examines the specific presentation of obesity reports in Chinese and British media in the past decade, and further enriches the research content related to obesity reports.Second, combined the content analysis method of communication with the chi-square test method in statistics,it compares Chinese and British media. It discusses the similarities and differences between Chinese and British media on obesity reporting, deepens the understanding and interpretation of the reporting theme and framework, and provides a more valuable discussion point.
