As one of the core qualities,that middle school students should have logical reasoning has been the focus of pedagogy research in recent years.And in each classification of logical reasoning,geometric reasoning in middle school mathematics learning plays a very important role.Grade 8,as the watershed of the third learning section,is in the developing stage of geometric reasoning ability.Therefore,this paper will be based on Van Hiele's theory of geometric reasoning level,we can investigate Grade Eight students' geometric reasoning ability through the test paper,understand how their geometric reasoning ability,and put forward the corresponding solutions according to the emergence of the problem.Firstly,I analyze and sorts out the literature at home and abroad.I divide the eighth-grade students' geometric reasoning ability into five levels,including Visual Reasoning,Analytical Descriptive Reasoning,Structurally Related Reasoning,Formal Logic Reasoning and Creative Reasoning according to the theory of geometric reasoning level proposed by Van Hiele.In addition,594 eighth-grade students from three schools in two districts of Liaoning Province were investigated and tested on geometric reasoning ability by using the test paper prepared by Professor Usiskin with some changes.I used SPSS and other software to analyze the results of the collected test papers,which showed that the geometric reasoning ability of most eighth graders could reach the level of Structurally Related Reasoning and Formal Logic Reasoning.About one third of the eighth grade students' geometric reasoning ability is only at the level of Visual Reasoning and Analytical Description Reasoning,which has a relatively big problem in learning geometry.Only about 3percent of eighth-grade students are at the level of Creative Reasoning,capable of solving complex and open geometric reasoning problems.In addition,the test results also show that students from key schools are better at geometric reasoning than those from non-key schools.On the basis of the survey results,this paper sums up the problems existing in geometric reasoning learning of Grade 8 students,and puts forward the corresponding countermeasures according to these problems.According to the proposed countermeasures,I wrote a teaching design with the theme of "The properties of isosceles triangles",and have a teaching case analysis on the results of the practice.Through the changes of class observation,homework and exam results,the teaching case shows that the strategies proposed in this paper are effective and practical in enhancing students' geometric reasoning ability.
