There are significant differences in the geometric thinking level for students in different developmental stages and the geometric thinking level has consistency in the same stage, which is the objective matching in the geometry curriculum in historical development. Students have the geometric thinking level matching and fitting itself in each developmental stage of study and live, it’s proper to collocate with textbook according to different geometric thinking level and way of thinking in order to arrange reasonable and efficient teaching activities. This paper completes an investigation into the geometric thinking level of 275 students from both Grade Seven and Grade Eight through documentary research and survey method. By investigating the current situation of the geometric thinking level and analyze the relevant factors, this paper draws a conclusion:1. The current situation of the geometric thinking level from both Grade Seven and Grade Eight and the correlation of the factors.(1) From the overall level of students from both Grade Seven and Grade Eight,12.2% of the students still stay at level one; students at level two account for 58.4% of the tatal; students at level three take up 23.9% and only 5.5% of the students at level four.(2) Classes in Grade Seven are all parallel classes, and the average level of the students’ ability in thinking geometrically is at level two. The level of the students in Class One higher than that of students in Class Three and Class Four and the level of students in Class Three and Class Four is almost the same.(3) Classes in Grade Eight are all parallel classes. The average level of the students’ ability in thinking geometrically is somewhere between level two and level three; the level of the students in Class Two is slightly higher; next is Class One, and the level of students Class Five is slightly lower than that of the other two classes.(4) The overall level of the students in Grade Eight is higher than that of the students in Grade Seven.(5) There isn’t significant difference between sex and the geometric thinking level, and the geometric thinking level between boys and girls is flat.(6) In a grade, the older the age of the students, the higher the level of his thinking.(7) There is close relationship between the marks of the test and the geometric thinking level. The higher the geometric thinking level is, the higher marks the sthdents get, and vice versa.(8) There is close relationship between the marks of the mid-term exam and the geometric thinking level. The higher the geometric thinking level is, the higher marks the sthdents get, and vice versa.(9) There is close relationship between the marks of the mid-term exam and the marks of the test. The higher marks of the mid-term exam the students get, the higher marks of the test the students get, and vice versa.2. The problems the students encounter when learning geometry.(1) The students are not interested in leraning geometry and they think the content of the math textbook is not interesting and very difficult to learn.(2) The students think that the geometry the teachers who speak too fast teach is not suit for them; besides, the teachers who are not even remember the conception of geometry only teach it for good students and it has nothing to do with the students.(3) The writing of the mathematical symbols and the processes of solving mathematical questions is not standard.(4) The spatial ability of the students is weak.(5) The students can’t find the implied conditions from the given conditions.(6) The way of learning geometry isn’t right. The students don’t correct the mistakes after doing homework and taking exams and looking for the wrong reasons.According to the above study results, this paper offers some advice to students and teachers and geometry textbook writing on the aspects of the current situation of the geometric thinking level and the problems the students encounter when learning geometry.
