Geometry is the key and difficult point for junior school mathematics teaching,in most of the time it needs to make a targeted teaching according to students' thinking features.The purpose of this study is to better understand the characteristics of geometric thinking of junior school students in China with literature,survey and interview according to the Van Hiele theory as the theoretical framework,taking example for the triangle geometry thinking level test system,through the analysis of test results and combined with the student interviews,draw the following conclusions:(1)The level of geometric thinking of junior high school students mainly concentrated in Level 2,level 3 and level 4,level 4 at most and level1 at least;although most students reach the level 4 but accounted for only 34.6% of the total number;the jump phenomenon occupies 7.3%.(2)There is no significant difference between male and female students in visual,analysis,informal deduction and formal deduction.(3)The first,in the total score of the test,level3,level 4,there were significant differences during the three grades but no significant difference in the level 1;in the level2,there are significant differences in grade one and the others,but there was no significant difference between grade two and the grade three.(4)There are significant differences in different classes in visual,analysis,informal deduction and formal deduction.(5)Characteristics of students at each level of thinking :In visually,compared to the horizontal or vertical triangles students on triangle rotating a certain angle identification is weaker;In analysis,the geometry teaching in junior school can help students to get the level 2,which is to help the students in the understanding of the characteristics of geometrical elements;In informal deduction,students encounter difficulties when solving the problem,directly through the observation of graphic drawing conclusions;In formal deduction,the logical reasoning of similar triangles is the most difficult part for students.On the basis of the above research,this research puts forward the following suggestions:(1)For students of different gender,grade,ability targeted teaching.(2)Let student hands-on experiments that help them to accumulate experience.(3)Strengthen the study of students' geometry language.(4)Help the students to do the training of looking at pictures.(5)Guide the students to improve their thinking by reasoning.
