Mathematics is a very logical subject.The study of mathematics can exercise a person's thinking logic,enhance a person's ability to judge.One of the important purposes of learning mathematics is to learn to see the world with the mathematical eyes,analyze the world with mathematical thinking,describe the world with mathematical language.In the process of mathematics learning,the study of geometry content plays an important role in the development of students' mind and the cultivation of their reasoning ability.However,the effect of learning geometry and the ability of reasoning in geometry of junior middle school students are not as ideal as expected.When I was teaching at a Middle School in H County,I found that students in this school had difficulties in geometry learning,so I made an investigation on the current situation of geometry reasoning ability of 232 eighth grade students.The author adopted four research methods in this study:literature review,educational measurement method,data analysis method and case study method.Taking Grade eight students in rural areas as an example,relying on Van Hill's geometric thinking,the geometrical reasoning ability of students was tested.Then on the basis of the test results and teacher's interviews,the author analyzed the development of student's geometric reasoning ability and put forward some thoughts on the training of students' geometric reasoning ability.The findings of this study are:(1)There are 99 students at level 0,accounting for 42.67% of the total number of students;(2)The number of students who have reached level 1 is relatively small,accounting for only13.36% of the total number of students.The findings show that students do not have a good grasp of the nature of some basic plane figures,which is a key stage in the development of students' geometric reasoning ability and has a great influence on the geometry learning of the students.Teachers should pay attention to improve geometry reasoning level of the students;(3)The number of students reaching Level 2 and level 3respectively accounted for 22.41% and 17.67% of the total number of participants tested,indicating that the higher the level of geometric reasoning was,the smaller the number of students reached.According to the results of Investigation and research,this paper puts forward some suggestions on how to cultivate geometric reasoning ability of students.From the perspectives of teachers: teachers need(1)Pay attention to the intuitiveness of geometry knowledge teaching;(2)give students plenty of time to think;(3)pay attention to the differences of each student,promote students' overall development;(4)overcome students' fear of geometry study;(5)strengthen the writing of the process of geometric proof.From the perspectives of students: they need(1)establish the self-confidence of geometry learning;(2)consolidate the foundation;(3)improve the ability of mathematical examination;(4)improve the ability of spatial imagination and thinking.
