Research On The Sustainable Development Of Urban Sports Events In Western Region Based On Urban Competitiveness Theory

Sports events are an important part of the sports industry.Sustainable development of sports events is conducive to the healthy development of the sports industry.It can not only meet the people’s multi-level and diversified sports needs,but also help enhance the people’s sense of happiness from sports events..In recent years,as the country has stepped up its implementation of the western region development strategy,it has greatly promoted the development of the comprehensive competitiveness of cities in the western region,and the gap with the eastern region has been narrowing.Sports events in the western region have also developed rapidly.To a certain extent,it meets the needs of residents in the western region for sports events.At present,the overall competitiveness of cities in the western region is still low,and the development of sports events is relatively weak,which greatly limits the happiness of residents from sports events,and it is difficult for cities to sustain sports events.For this reason,it is particularly important to carry out research on the sustainable development of urban sports events in the western region.This paper mainly relies on the four index systems(i.e.,comprehensive economic competitiveness,livable city competitiveness,business-friendly city competitiveness,and sustainable city competitiveness)of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(Academy of Finance and Economics)as the main theoretical system for research on the sustainable development of sports events,and takes the sustainable development of sports events in some cities in the western region as the research object,and uses the literature method,expert We use literature,expert interview,case study,questionnaire survey and mathematical statistics to study the sustainable development of sports events in western cities.At present,the competitiveness of cities and the ability to hold sports events in the western region are relatively weak,only Chengdu,Chongqing and Xi’an have relatively strong competitiveness and ability to hold sports events,and they are the central cities in the western region,therefore,Chengdu,Chongqing and Xi’an are selected as the case studies in this paper.The current situation of urban competitiveness and sports events in Chengdu,Chongqing and Xi’an are analyzed to determine the correlation between urban sports events and urban competitiveness,and to explore the status of correlation between urban competitiveness index ranking and urban sports events ranking,especially the impact of urban sustainable competitiveness,business-friendly urban competitiveness,urban comprehensive economic competitiveness and livable urban competitiveness on the development of sports events.In addition,the top ten cities in the city competitiveness index ranking and the cities with strong ability to hold sports events are analyzed for fit,as well as the top twenty cities in the city competitiveness index ranking are analyzed in depth for their influence on the settlement of professional sports event teams.Therefore,this paper argues that city competitiveness affects the development of urban sporting events,and applying the relevant indexes of city competitiveness theory to the study of sustainable development of urban sporting events can provide a proven development path for the sustainable development of urban sporting events in the western region.The main conclusions drawn in this paper:(1)The four major indicators of city competitiveness theory are closely related to the sustainable development of urban sports events and become positively influenced,i.e.,the higher the competitiveness of a city,the stronger the city’s ability to hold sports events,and the stronger the ability to hold sports events is conducive to the sustainable development of urban sports events.(2)When analyzing the correlation between city competitiveness related index ranking and city sports events,it is found that the competitiveness of business-friendly cities has the greatest influence on city sports events,followed by city sustainable competitiveness,followed by city comprehensive economic competitiveness,while the competitiveness of livable cities has relatively less influence on sports events.(3)The higher the competitiveness of the city,the more favorable it is for professional teams to settle in the city,among which the competitiveness of the business-friendly city and the sustainable competitiveness of the city are the most attractive for professional teams to settle in the city.According to this study,the recommendations for the sustainable development of sports events in western cities are:(1)to strengthen the combination of government guidance and market operation.(2)Combine the current situation of urban competitiveness in western region and improve the overall competitiveness of cities.(3)Combine the characteristics of cities in the western region to create city brand sports events.(4)Drawing on successful experiences,explore the sustainable development mode of urban sports events in western region.(5)Relying on the implementation of national strategies such as the western development,vigorously develop sports events.
