Recently, the competition between countries evolved into cities, during the environment of economic globalization. There were more and more researches focusing on city competitiveness. In general, researchers connected it with social, economic, culture, and environment.I tried to analysis how important sport matches influenced city competitiveness, combining theoretical study with empirical research. First of all, I studied the Formula 1 grand prix influenced Shanghai. Through regression analysis, I found that Formula 1 closely connected with automobile industry. As the same time, Formula 1 actively increased the GDP of Shanghai, and shortly improved the city's popularity. Secondly, I explored how the Olympic Games influenced the economic and employment in Beijing,2008, and how the stadiums changed Beijing after the Olympic Games. Then, based on empirical research, I scored major Chinese cities from four factors: Important Sport Game, Individual Match, Professional Club, and Stadium. So I can detect the importance of kinds of games. In conclusion, not only economic, culture, environment influenced city competitiveness, but also sport matches affected. Even it affected more than others in some time. After comparing, Beijing and Shanghai got highest scores in sport matches. Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Shenyang and Jinan were the second class. Ultimately, we could deduce some illuminations. First, cities, in mainland China, did not pay enough attention to sport matches. Second, both the level of athletics and commercial operation were not high enough. Although there were 23 giant stadiums which admitted more than 60,000 persons, half of them were idle because they could be used in the league.
