In this context,after-school services are an important livelihood issue in China’s social development,which can effectively alleviate parents’ difficulties in transporting students and ensure their safety and growth.In March 2021,the Ministry of Education and six other departments jointly issued the "Compulsory Education Quality Evaluation Guide",which clearly states that the role of primary and secondary schools as the main channel in after-school services should be strengthened and after-school services should be comprehensively promoted.The study of after-school services in urban primary schools has practical significance for improving the level of after-school services in schools and meeting the diverse needs of parents and students.Taking Nanning M primary school as a case,this paper studies the current situation,effectiveness and practical problems of M primary school’s after-school service and proposes suggestions for optimization based on an analysis of the causes of the problems.The study is intended to explore the effectiveness of the school’s after-school service practice,in order to provide some replicable experience for the city primary school to carry out after-school service and expand the new pathways of the implementation of after-school service in schools.In recent years,the practice of M primary school’s after-school service has implemented the students’ after-school delay trusteeship,which effectively alleviates the problem of parents’ difficulty in picking up and sending off;the after-school service has been normalized,and students’ interests and specialties have been cultivated;the after-school service quality has been continuously improved with the collaborative participation of inside and outside schools;the characteristic after-school service mode has been constructed,and the school’s educational function has been optimized.There are some shortcomings in the practice of after-school services in Nanning M Primary School: insufficient specialization in the "hardware and software" of after-school services,an inadequate mechanism for coordinating after-school services within the school,insufficient content of after-school services within the school,and an inadequate mechanism for monitoring and evaluating after-school services within the school.The main reasons for these problems are the inadequate supply of funds for after-school services,the biased understanding of after-school services by stakeholders,the unmet needs of students for diversified development,and the single way of evaluating the quality of after-school services.In view of the practical problems of after-school services in Nanning M primary school,countermeasures for optimizing after-school services are proposed.Firstly,to improve the management system of after-school services in school and strengthen the supervisory responsibilities of schools;Secondly,to optimize the structure of teaching staffs of after-school services and improve the quality of after-school services;Thirdly,to enrich the content of after-school services and consolidate the facilities environment;Fourthly,to improve the implementation standards and assessment mechanism of after-school services in school;Fifthly,to promote the information management level of after-school services in school.
