General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2020)incorporated the English subject core competence(ESCC),aimed to develop students’ language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability,to fulfill the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education.It has become the general goal of English teaching in senior high school of basic education to cultivate students’ ESCC.At present,the research on how to effectively combine the ESCC with the specific subject teaching is still in the active exploration stage.There are still various problems in the cultivation process of students’ ESCC,which need to be explored,studied and solved.Through reviewing the research related to core competence(CC)at home and abroad,based on constructivism learning theory,humanism learning theory and multiple intelligence theory,260 students from a senior high school in Zhoukou City were selected as the research subjects.This thesis mainly discusses the following questions:(1)What are the existing problems and possible influencing factors in the cultivation of senior high school students’ ESCC?(2)What are the strategies for cultivating ESCC among senior high school students?(3)How to conduct teaching design and teaching case analysis for the cultivation of senior high school students’ ESCC?The following conclusions are drawn through relevant investigation,analysis and research.(1)The current situation of the cultivation of the ESCC among senior high school students is not optimistic,and students’ mastery of language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability is not balanced,students’ language ability and cultural awareness are higher than thinking quality and learning ability.By analyzing the problems existing in the current situation,the influencing factors are discussed from the aspects of curriculum,teachers and students.(2)In view of the existing problems and influencing factors in the current situation,and based on the theoretical basis,this study put forward the corresponding cultivation strategies from the aspects of language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.(3)Based on the cultivation strategies,this study conducted teaching design and case analysis.The results of case analysis show that the cultivation strategies and teaching case proposed in this study are feasible for the cultivation of senior high school students’ ESCC.To a certain extent,this study revealed the current situation of the cultivation of senior high school students’ ESCC,which is helpful to improve teachers’ and students’ attention to the ESCC.The strategies proposed in this study have certain feasibility and practicability,and have certain reference value for practical teaching.This study made a helpful exploration for teachers to re-examine English teaching,deeply understand the ESCC and integrate it into English teaching. |
