The core competence of English subject refers to the quality requirements of students’ consciousness,quality and ability after the study of English subject.However,since the 2017 edition of the new English Curriculum Standard for senior middle school,the implementation of English core literacy is not optimistic.Therefore,from the perspective of subject Core Literacy,it is very important to explore the path of English teachers’ professional development.The core question of this study is: Based on the framework of subject core literacy,what path should senior English teachers follow in their professional development? The relevant sub-questions are: At this stage,what are the problems in the professional development of Senior High School English teachers from the perspective of subject Core Literacy? What are the main factors that affect the professional development of English teachers? What ways can we promote the professional development of senior English teachers? In view of this,this paper takes M Middle School in Nanning as a case,takes root in the scene,and after several months of interview investigation and Observation Research,finds that M Middle School English teachers are the weakest in English listening,speaking and writing,and their cross-cultural awareness is not strong,critical and innovative thinking is not enough,the ability of autonomous learning is not enough.The reasons for the above problems are internal and external factors,the internal factors are mainly the old concept of English teacher education and teaching,subject teaching ability is not strong,the lack of self-learning motivation.The main external factors are the lack of a good learning atmosphere,the lack of systematic and targeted teacher training programs and the lack of incentive mechanisms.Therefore,in order to promote the professional development of English teachers,teachers should change the outmoded educational and teaching ideas,improve the teaching ability of the subject,and insist on independent development.In addition,the school should establish a good English learning environment for teachers and a research and training model based on the core competence of English subject,as well as a perfect rewardsystem.The ultimate goal of teachers’ professional development is to serve the needs of students.The advantage of this study is to explore the path of teachers’ professional development from the perspective of subject core literacy,and to make teachers’ professional development more targeted.However,because this study is a case study,the universality of its conclusions is still insufficient.
