A Report On Translation Of The Reader On Qilu Culture (Excerpts) Under The Guidance Of Translation Ethics

Nowadays,China is playing an irreplaceable role on the world stage,and has attracted more and more attention from international friends who have a strong desire to learn traditional Chinese thoughts and culture.As one of the important branches,regional culture integrates the spiritual and cultural connotation of a region,with a self-evident role in spreading Chinese culture.Guided by Chesterman’s translation ethics,the translation practice of The Reader on Qilu Culture(Excerpts)was conducted,aiming at exploring the guiding role of Chesterman’s five ethics models in the translation of regional culture readers,hoping to contribute some ideas for the translation activities of Chinese regional culture readers and foster cross-cultural communication.This report discusses the whole practice process in detail,recording the background and significance of this translation practice,and giving a specific statement on the translation process.In general,some preparations,source analysis and post quality control,etc.are discussed.In addition,according to Chesterman’s five translation ethics models,the author enumerates the corresponding translation practice cases,further analyzing the influence of each ethics model on the author’s translation choice,and discussing how to better highlight and realize the established functions of regional culture readers according to the theoretical guidance,so as to better serve cultural exchanges.Through this translation practice,the report obtained the following findings: Firstly,given that the regional culture reader records the historical development,ideological origin and characteristic culture of a region,etc.,its translation tests the translator’s patience and sense of responsibility.Therefore,to get ready for the subsequent translation practice,the translator should make sufficient theoretical and practical preparations before translation;secondly,the characteristics of the text determine its content,so it’s natural to encounter many Chinese unique words and expressions such as culture-loaded words.Therefore,translators should deeply explore their connotations,assuming the role of being cultural messenger and shouldering the great responsibility of cultural communication;Thirdly,Chesterman’s five models are not absolute opposites,so when translating,translators can be guided by two or more than two models,but in certain circumstances,when there is a conflict between the first four models,translator should have comprehensive considerations,and use the corresponding translation strategies.The basis for determination should be the accuracy of target text.This translation practice is a process of combining Chesterman’s five ethics models with the C-E translation of regional cultural readers.In theory,the further elaboration of the five ethical models will provide theoretical basis for translators’ translation choices.In practice,the process of translating regional cultural readers into English will promote the output and development of Chinese culture.Through this practice,the author not only better knows the regional culture in Qilu area,but also has a deep understanding of Chesterman’s translation theory.The practical and theoretical level of translation has been improved.The author are committed to being specialized in translation skills,strengthening the translation ability,and devoting to promoting cultural communication in the future.
