Language is one of the important characteristics of a nation, which preserves and delivers the achievements of its civilization. In China, except the distinctive languages of various ethnic minorities, the number of distinctive words handed down from ancient times in mandarin is rich enough such as names of ancient books, titles of animals and birds in fairy tales, and titles of ethnic minorities in border areas of China in ancient times. These words are culture-loaded ones, and they are noticed by more and more translators and scholars who study them from different perspectivesThe translator selects two sections of the 8th chapter "the art of the dragon, phoenix and lion" from Shen Congwen's book Common Knowledge of Chinese Cultural Relics as the source text.On the purpose of spreading features of Chinese and based on Chesterman's five translation ethical models including ethics of representation, ethics of service, ethics of communication,norm-based ethics and ethics of commitment,culture-loaded words are divided into different groups and translated through methods of literal translation with annotations, transliteration with annotations and free translation,so that readers can learn Chinese features while reading the translation. In this way,the cultural elements contained in the culture-loaded words can be shown. The author introduces the five models and explains why they are applied in these culture-loaded words. And then, the author analyses these words including their meanings and relevant stories. After this, combining with distinct features of these models, the author makes a conclusion that it is appropriate to use these five models to guide the translation of culture-loaded words. This book sorts out the common knowledge relating to cultural relics covering the ancient people's dressing up,articles for daily use, arts and crafts and other sectors. It is an excellent introduction to the common knowledge of cultural relics. Its author tells all kinds of cultural relics as an appreciator with convincing and vivid words,so it has rich and systematic contents.Among these them, there are lots of culture-loaded words, which make it possible for the book to be the source text of this practice report.
