Abstract/Summary:
As a newly-emerging subject,pragmatics has attracted many scholars’ attention.The continuous development of pragmatics has also been reflected in the field of lexicography,and the pragmatic information in dictionaries has become an eye-catching content for lexicographers and researchers.The present dissertation,taking speech act verbs as the investigation object,aims to explores the presentation of pragmatic information of speech act verbs in The Commercial Press Learner’s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese and Oxford Intermediate Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary(5th edition).On the whole,The Commercial Press Learner’s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese has less pragmatic information than Oxford Intermediate Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary(5th edition)in terms of pragmatic information.Meanwhile,in terms of the presentation of pragmatic information,Oxford Intermediate Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary(5th edition)uses a variety of presentation measures and comprehensively and innovatively.Although the presentation measures of pragmatic information used in The Commercial Press Learner’s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese has also been improved but the present measures it used are relatively simple.In terms of innovation,the “Attention”column was presented on The Commercial Press Learner’s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese.At the same time,the Oxford Intermediate Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary(5th edition)has set up a “HELP” column,a “TOPIC”column,a “OTHER WORDS FOR” column,“MORE” columns,subject labels and language style labels.Based on the research above,we believe that the Chinese learners’ s dictionary could be optimized and improved from both macro and micro aspects.At the macro level,pragmatic and language learning pages should be added.Also,the pragmatic labeling system should be constructed and improved.In addition,the Chinese pragmatic appendix should be added.At the micro level,add meaning menus,select real corpora,add speech act theme columns,cultural pragmatics columns are better approaches to modify Chinese learn’s dictionary.Besides,try to integrate convergence media into lexicography may be a new way to fortify Chinese learner’s dictionaryThe innovations of this research are as follows: First,it focuses on the intermediate level of learner’s dictionary;second,it selects speech act verbs to explore the pragmatic information in the intermediate Chinese and English learner’s dictionaries,which present differences and their respective advantages and shortcomings.Second,it fully integrates the characteristics of the Chinese language,takes speech act verbs as the research object,and analyzes the present characteristics and presentation measures of pragmatic information in the current Chinese learner’s dictionary.Furthure,there are some splits that we could fill in the future.First,due to the large number of speech act verbs,this study only uses a sampling method for a single seven types of speech act verbs;second,this paper only concerntrate on unideractional speech act verbs,it isn’t revolved in bidirectional speech act verbs.
