This is a translation report about children’s literature(CL)and the novel is entitled The Girl Who Drank the Moon,the bestseller written by Kelly Barnhill from America.Barnhill’s book is the story of a little female protagonist,Luna,who was taken from her family and saved by a kindhearted witch.She raised her but accidentally imbued her with magical powers and other stories come after this.This novel is an excellent fantasy fiction and its language is creative and inviting.It is beloved by American children and won the Newbery Medal,the highest U.S.award in children’s literature.Children are the future and hope of a nation,and excellent children’s literature can guide and promote children to build up right outlook on life and values,cultivate noble characters and broaden horizons.Therefore,the author of the paper explored difficulties in translating children’s literature by taking cases form the translation of this novel and showed specific methods in solving these difficulties under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics(hereafter RA).RA is a version of reader response literary theory that emphasizes each particular reader’s reception or interpretation in making meaning from a literary text.This report is divided into five parts.The first chapter is a description of the translation task,including an introduction to the task,the introduction to the source text and the significance of the task.Chapter 2 describes the translation process of the project,including translation preparations,translating process and quality control strategies.Chapter 3 is the introduction to the main viewpoints of RA and the importance and necessity of adopting the theory.In chapter 4,the author of the paper enumerates some cases about translating words,sentences,figures of speech and provides methods to make the target language readers to have a pleasant reading experience.And chapter 5 is the conclusion and the translator’s reflection.In short,translators should translate children’s literature for children.In other words,the language should be easy and readable,lively and vivid,and should be able to promote children’s mental and psychological development.
