A Report On The Translation Of Children's Literature Under The Guidance Of Reception Aesthetics

This is an E-C translation report for children's literature——Midnight,which belongs to children's literature written by English famous writer Jacqueline Wilson.Midnight is a wonderful tale of family and is suitable for children to read.The translator selected the most absorbing plots——Chapter 10 and Chapter 11,which are the climax of the story and contain plenty of dialogue description.Firstly,the translation report gives a brief introduction to the background and significance of the translation project.Then,after studying the current translation situation of children's literature both at home and abroad,the translator finds that the current situation of children's literature translation is far less than people's exception.Therefore,according to translator's interests,children's literature has been chosen as the source text of the translation project.This translation project is guided by Reception Aesthetics,which includes Role of Readers,Horizon of Reception and Aesthetic Distance.Secondly,under the guidance of this theory,the translator studies the thinking way and language characteristics of children.Aiming to meet the children's horizon of reception and narrow the aesthetic distance between the translator and the children,some strategies of translation are adopted from two aspects of words and sentences.In words level,the translator uses a large number of onomatopoetic words,reduplicated words and interjections,literal translation with notes and free translation;In sentences level,the translator discusses the strategies of amplification and split method.In conclusion,“Reception Aesthetics” provides a perspective to study children's literal translation.On the one hand,translator should focus on children's “acceptability”,the thinking way and aesthetic taste of children.On the other hand,translator should consider the “aesthetic value” of children's literature translation and make the translation more and more interesting.
