A Report On C-E Translation Of Children’s Literature Rainbow Girl(Excerpts)

This is a translation report on Chinese-English translation of children’s literature.The translation material is excerpted from Rainbow Girl,an original fairy tale anthology written by Zhong Rui,a minority writer from western Hunan.The language of “Rainbow Girl” is full of childish delight,and the storyline is vivid and interesting,which is in line with the reading habits of children.Choosing Chinese children’s literature as materials for Chinese-English translation is not only the interest of the translator,but also conforms to the “going global” strategy of Chinese culture.Based on the Reception Aesthetics of Hans Robert Jauss,the translation of role names,onomatopoeia and rhetoric are discussed in the translation report,so as to verify the feasibility of the theory in guiding the translation of children’s literature.The report is divided into five parts.The introduction briefly introduces the background and significance of children’s literature translation.The first chapter is a brief introduction of the translation task.The second chapter describes the translation process.The third chapter illustrates how to handle the key and difficult points met in translation through case analysis under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics.The fourth chapter is the reflection of the report.In this report,literal translation and free translation are used in the translation of role names.Transliteration,omission and conversion are used in the translation of onomatopoeia.Literal translation,amplification and omission are used in the translation of rhetoric.Under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics,the language style and childish delight of the source text can be reproduced through different translation methods and skills.Through the translation practice,the translator’s ability in translation has been improved.The translator hopes this report can provide some references for the translation practice and research of children’s literature in China.
