A Report On The Interpretation Of The 7th Military World Games Parachuting Competition

The interpretive theory is developed from the observation and analysis of the interpretation practice.It proposes that language is a tool for communication and the purpose of interpretation is to convey specific meaning and information content instead of language form.The triangular model of the interpretive theory: source language understanding,deverbalization or break from the language shell and target language re-expression is a complete system of information processing.The 7th World Military Games,held in Wuhan from October 18 th to 28 th,2019,is the first comprehensive international military sports event hosted by China,and it is also the largest international sports event held in China after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.I worked as an interpreter for the 7th Military Games parachuting competition,the main tasks are escort interpreting and meeting interpretation.Based on the on-site interpretation practice,this article mainly analyzes and summarizes the interpretation process from four aspects.The first part is the introduction of the World Military Games,explaining the specific requirement of the task and the relevant background of parachuting competition;the second part is the pre-interpretation preparations,which consists of the terminology,sports terms,and expressions;the third part is to explain the translation process under the interpretive theory as well as the detailed interpretation strategies used in case analysis.In the fourth part: case study,the text is mainly analyzed from the aspects of contextual amplification,supplementary explanation,logic clarification and information integration,conversion,omission,and the last part is the task summary.This report relies on the content of on-the-spot recordings and pre-interpretation preparations and specifically analyzes the difficulties and gains in the interpretation process of putting the source language into a reasonable target language by using appropriate strategies under the guidance of the interpretive theory.
