| The translation material are excerpted from Power to Teach: Learning through Practice by Wendy Robinson,Professor of Education at the University of Exeter,UK.The translator selects the first three chapters to translate.This book pays attention to the British teacher education and teacher training,and how to implement effective teaching strategies.The selected material can be categorized as Newmark’s informative text.This translation practice on the one hand helps to introduce foreign education theories to China for domestic researches’ reference.And on the other hand,under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory,this paper explores the translation strategies and skills of informative texts.The language of the source text is quite formal and logic.A galaxy of complex sentences interlude to convey abundant information.The focus of this translation practice is to correctly understand the meaning of the words and sentences in the source text,clarify the contextual logic,and accurately convey the information of source text to the target readers.The challenge lies in how to balance the relation between information faithfulness and communicative effect,and reproduce the source language style to the target readers.Based on the aforementioned,this report discusses the translation strategies and skills of the educational texts under the guidance of the communicative translation theory and summarizes applicable translation methods.Since the essence of Newmark’s communicative translation theory is to center around the target readers,the author applies five translation methods including amplification,segmentation,restructuring,extension and embedding to realize the communicative effect. |
