| A sound ecological environment is the foundation for human survival and development, and the most equitable livelihood well-being.In the face of the increasingly severe environmental situation,in order to seek sustainable economic and social development,China has increased the intensity of environmental regulation, and issued relevant laws and regulations through administrative means and market mechanisms to restrict the emission behavior of market players.Effective environmental regulation policy can reduce environmental pollution, promote enterprises to optimize production mode, innovate production technology and process, and then improve environmental quality. However, environmental regulation will increase the total production cost of regulated enterprises.Environmental regulation is a means taken by the government to reduce negative externalities. However, when enterprises allocate more productive resources to environmental protection, will it have an impact on the employment and income of workers?Making the fruits of reform and development more and more equitable benefit all the people is the embodiment of the superiority of China’s socialism. We should not only "green water and green mountains",but also take into account the social costs brought by environmental regulation. As a "leading demonstration zone for ecological civilization construction" and a new support zone for China’s future economic growth, this paper believes that selecting the Yangtze River economic belt as the research object to carry out the research on the impact of environmental regulation on Residents’ income inequality has important theoretical value and practical significance for analyzing the role and role of environmental issues in China’s regional economic development.Based on the theories of regional economics, development economics and regulation economics, this paper explores the impact of environmental regulation on income inequality in the Yangtze River economic belt through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods.Firstly, the concept of environmental regulation and income inequality is defined through literature review.Secondly, this paper makes a statistical analysis on the development status and characteristics of the Yangtze River economic belt from the three aspects of economic and social development, environmental regulation and income inequality. It uses the Theil index to decompose the income inequality of residents in the Yangtze River economic belt, and finds that the income inequality in the region is the main reason.Based on this, this paper believes that the impact of environmental regulation on income inequality has spatial heterogeneity, analyzes the behavior logic of enterprises in dealing with environmental regulation from the two dimensions of cost effect and innovation effect, explores the impact mechanism of environmental regulation on income inequality, and finally uses the panel threshold model to test the mechanism. The main points of this paper are as follows:(1)in areas with high employment rate in the secondary industry, the strengthening of environmental regulation will aggravate the income inequality of residents;(2)The government’s appropriate support for enterprises’ scientific and technological innovation ability will alleviate income inequality;(3)The enhancement of enterprises’ scientific and technological capability will aggravate the income inequality of residents;(4)The increase of foreign direct investment is conducive to reducing income inequality;(5)Urbanization is conducive to reducing income inequality. On this basis, this paper puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions for the possible social effects of environmental regulation in the Yangtze River economic belt. |
