Abstract/Summary:
A new computer aided embroidery design system has been developed in this research work. The personal computer based system provides an integrated environment for graphics design and stitch data generation. The system was developed under the Microsoft Windows environment and can be run on any computer that supports Microsoft Windows 3.0 and is equipped with a mouse.;A unique automated odd shape fill method was developed to enhance the automatic stitch data generation capability. For any odd shape, the operator needs only to indicate the boundaries of the outline and the holes, as well as the entry and exit point. The system will automatically calculate the stitch data and find the path for the jump stitches.;Text can be easily created by typing the characters and selecting a stored font. Users can design their own character sets and store them in a font file. Repeatedly used logos can also be designed, stored, and retrieved into emblem designs. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).;The graphics design features implemented in the system are specially suitable for emblem outline creation and modification. The free-hand drawing and shape editing capabilities make graphics design easy and fast. The macro code technology used for stitch data generation makes the system flexible.
