Abstract/Summary:
With the advancements in embedded technologies, there has been a rapid growth in the development of sensor nodes. These nodes read their surroundings and send the required data to a base station. The networks, involving a large number of sensors nodes communicating wirelessly with a base station, are called wireless sensor networks. Research has been conducted to increase the energy efficiency of these networks. One of the techniques proposed is the LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) protocol, which defines how data from the sensors is sent to the base station. This project introduces an Enhanced Energy Efficient (EEE) LEACH protocol by adding a new level of clustering hierarchy to the existing LEACH protocol. The protocols are simulated using the same network parameters in MATLAB. The results show the EEE LEACH protocol increases the network lifetime and makes the network more energy efficient when compared to the LEACH protocol.
