Abstract/Summary:
Scientific Collaboration, a vital component for research progress, is the activity of connecting people of common interests, allowing them to exchange knowledge and resources while achieving a shared vision. Traditional approaches of collaboration involve cumbersome, time-consuming methods for identifying peers and exchanging information. Their effectiveness often relies on the researchers' skills and perseverance. Current Web-based scientific collaboration is significantly hindered by the limitations of the Web's semantic interlinking and data annotation capabilities. Semantic Web, a new initiative, wherein information is given a well-defined meaning, allows computers and people to work in cooperation. This thesis presents a Semantic Web based framework, CoCo, which facilitates scientific collaboration by allowing researchers to fully exploit the Web's knowledge space, thereby expediting identification of peers and aiding information exchange. The analysis and evaluation of the CoCo implementation using real data has provided experimental results, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the CoCo framework for scientific collaboration.
