Abstract/Summary:
Freelancing as a career choice for many young professionals in electronic media is a choice often overlooked. Many students do not know that you can make a career as a freelancer. They are rarely told that it could be a career choice and many think that it's a last resort. Many professionals that are freelancing, never believed that they would be freelancers. For most it was a very tough decision to make, but it was a decision that they are happy they made.;This study explored the impact that freelancing has had on enhancing the quality of work and hours that are worked by media professionals in 2010. An 18-question survey instrument was constructed by the researcher and placed on the web. The researcher's personal contacts from work and Facebook, and professional colleagues at Clark Production Associates were invited by email to participate in the survey. Subjects were asked to use a Likert scale to rate their satisfaction with 10 aspects of their freelancing experience. Forty-nine professionals participated in the survey.;The most interesting results were descriptive. In nine out of the 10 areas surveyed, a majority of respondents reported being "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with their job experience. When asked about overall job satisfaction, 75 percent of the respondents reported being "very satisfied" or "satisfied." Eighty-four percent of respondents reported this level of satisfaction with "The chance to do different things from time to time, and 82 percent with "the chance to do something that makes use of my abilities.";Also, it revealed that while most freelancers did not start out as a freelancer; they learned from other freelancers that you are able to make a good living for your family without working every day.
