In recent years, the culture system reform of our country is being deepenedconstantly, as a culture market operation main body, the publishing units facingincreasingly intense competition. With the influence of administrative monopolybreaking and the development of internet technology, increasingly importance hasbeen attached to modern enterprise management system and talent training, especiallythe training of book editors. The training of talents depends on the design of careerplanning; it also has close relationship with the environment, the efforts fromindividuals as well as Units’. Exploring the book editor’s career development path isimportant to the development of publishing industry, the restructuring and upgradation of culture industry, meeting the demand of the culture market andimproving the soft power of our nation.As a national cultural system reform pilot unit, Jilin Publishing Group co.,Ltdconsistently puts social benefit first, pays more attention to the training of bookeditors and emphasizes the content is king for book publishing. The study object arebook editors of Jilin Publishing Group co.,Ltd. In order to have a thoroughknowledge of the book editor’s career planning, the author studys this throughquestionnaire investigation, deep interview and data analysis. According to the study,the author explores the problems and causes in book editor’s career planning, aimingat providing reliable basis for making a reasonable career planning for book editors.According to the summary and statistical analyses, the author figures out bookeditor’s seven competencies in editorial work. There are abilities of language, ofaesthetic judgment, of social activity, and of computer application as well asdiscrimination quality of ideological and political, professional quality, and the abilityof planning for selecting subjects. These abilities construct the competency model forbook editor. The assessment for book editor is based on the competency model,personal measurement, objective assessment,unit supporting and other measures. Combining the characteristics of publishing industry with the traditional "V" shapeoccupation career path, this paper develops a "tridents" shape development pathfor book editors. The "tridents" shape development path and rank promotion make aclear career path and goals. And these will attribute to book editor’ development andthe units’ talents training, as well as mobilize book editor’s activity and positivity. Forthe purpose of saving labor cost at the most, the author tries to timely feedback andadjust book editor’s career planning, according to the different roles that book editor,director of editing office and Hr departments play in career planning.Based on the actual condition of the enterprise is the key of making a successfulscheme, and effectively promoting the scheme is the effective guarantee. Now days,the publishing industry facing increasingly intense competition, enterprises shouldlook further afield, and try to promote the implementation of book editor’s careerplanning as well as train core book editors, which is a win-win outcome both for bookeditors and publishing enterprises.
