Abstract/Summary:
To achieve successful adoption and implementation of process technologies in the construction industry requires a better understanding of practices of innovation management. Defining innovation as the process of applying something new, a research project is undertaken to contribute to a better understanding of its concomitant practices. From a potential adopter's perspective, the process of technology adoption and implementation is often less than satisfactory. The research addresses this by furthering the understanding of the innovation processes in case studies addressing the implementation of a process technology, virtual reality, in a specific construction context, modular construction. The management performance regarding innovation practices, at the organizational level, is monitored through the course of the implementation usage scenarios and captured through the implementation of an initial maturity assessment model. The combination of practical case studies and implementation of performance assessment models provides a better understanding of the innovation process. Contributions of the research include: a better understanding of the technology development process, identification of adoption and implementation challenges, and the development of an initial innovation management maturity assessment model.
