Since Trump took office, the so-called "trade protection" policy against China has finally triggered a series of Sino-US trade disputes.The"China-US trade dispute" has become a major issue for both China and the United States,as well as the international media industry. The battle of trade is also the battle of the media and public opinion. This article examines the reporting characteristics and framework construction of the topic of "China-US trade dispute" in mainstream media in both China and the United States. The paper takes the New York Times and People's Daily, the most influential media in China and the United States,as the research objects, and takes March 2018 as the trade dispute(Trade War),which is recognized by Trump as the signing of the presidential memorandum,as the research object As a starting point, relevant reports were selected as research samples during the "hot spot"period lasting nearly a year and a half until August 2019.The main research question is:What are the basic contents of the "People's Daily"and "New York Times" reports on "China-US trade disputes"?What are the characteristics of the report? What kind of news reporting framework have the two newspapers constructed? What is the reason behind it?Through the discussion of the above issues, the positions of the Chinese and American media on this issue and the angle of analysis have been clarified. This research mainly uses frame analysis and content analysis.Sampling samples according to important incidents, and according to the development situation in the "Sino-US trade dispute”,it is divided into three phases:"first round of confrontation period","sustained confrontation period" and "conflict relaxation period" for frame construction analysis.Combine Zang Guoren's high-level framework,middle-level framework, and low-level framework theory to analyze the content of relevant reports. This article is mainly composed of three parts:introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction discusses the background and significance of the topic, and makes a literature review of the news frame theory and the China-related reports of the New York Times, thus providing a theoretical basis for the research of this article. The main body is composed of three chapters:Chapter one sorts out the research foundation, and proposes the specific research scope and research arrangement of this research from the concept definition, research samples, and research methods. The second chapter is a quantitative statistical analysis of the 311 report texts of the "New York Times" and "People's Daily" on the "Sino-US trade dispute" report. It is divided into three perspectives:macro, meso, and micro, mainly from the number of reports,The report genre, report theme, report title, report source, and discourse rhetoric do detailed report content analysis. The third chapter is the frame analysis of samples in different stages. The fourth chapter focuses on the content analysis and frame analysis of the report, and proposes the influencing factors of the two media to form the relevant frame,so as to explore the main reasons behind the formation of the frame. The study found that:The People's Daily and the New York Times reported that the number of reports at important time points was converging. The article genres of the two newspapers were mostly news and commentary articles. From the perspective of sources, the New York Times cited more sources, but more sources than China were used, which caused a certain imbalance in China's discourse power. From the analysis of the reporting framework of the two newspapers,it can be seen that in the process of constructing the reporting framework of the two media,as the development of Sino-US trade disputes, the framework has also changed. On the whole, the news reporting framework constructed by the People's Daily is "forced to defend itself'-"the defender of free trade"-"the promoter of negotiations".The news framework constructed by the "New York Times" is "to express concerns"-"to be forced to question"-"to compromise".Among them, the "People's Daily" is guided by the policy of "opposing unilateralism",and mostly adopts the method of reporting that integrates facts and opinions. The "New York Times"takes "fair trade" as the basis of its argument and mostly uses an economic perspective as the main reporting method.
