Research On The Construction Of China's Economy Image By American Mainsream Media In The Context Of Sino-us Trade Dispute

China's economy has achieved system transformation and rapid development since reform and opening up.With the increase of the trade deficit between China and the United States,the trade contradiction between two countries has been enlarged.It is of great practical and theoretical significance to study how the New York Times constructs China's economic image and what kind of economic image it constructs during the Sino-US trade dispute.This paper used text analysis,content analysis and literature method,based on the framing theory,to randomly sample the relevant news published by the New York Times from August 18,2017 to February 28,2019.A total of 127 news samples were obtained,and the high-level,medium-level and low-level frame analysis was carried out to draw conclusions.This paper is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the research background and significance.This chapter puts forward the research questions,expounds the research background,research practical significance and theoretical significance.The second chapter is the concept elaboration and the literature review,this chapter divides into two parts,the first part carries on the concept elaboration to the national image and the frame theory,reviews the scholars already proposed the related concept and carries on the summary;the second part demonstrates the national image and the news media relations,the national image and the trade dispute relations,divides to the Sino US trade dispute evolution stage.The third chapter is the research design,which describes the research methods in detail,puts forward the research questions,constructs the framework categories of high,medium and low levels and puts forward the classification standards.The fourth chapter is the framework analysis of the New York Times' report on Sino US trade disputes,which is divided into three sections according to three levels: high,medium and low.The first section is the issue frame analysis of high-level structure,including the number and frequency of news release,news genre and news topic distribution;the second section is the content frame analysis of the middle level structure,based on the five stages of Sino-US trade dispute divided in the previous chapter,each section analyzes the use of background interpretation frame,data frame,results frame and other frames of the samples;the third section This chapter summarizes the key words and analyzes the reporting tone of each period of Sino US trade dispute.The fifth chapter summarizes the characteristics of China's economic image based on the analysis of the fourth chapter.The sixth chapter summarizes the New York Times' reporting model on Sino-US trade disputes and expounds the shortcomings of this study.This paper finds that the New York Times' image of China's economy in Sino US trade disputes is relatively neutral.In terms of China's economic development and trade system,China's economy has experienced a process from prosperity to decline from the early stage of trade disputes to the later stage.China is actively establishing trade institutions and reshaping the trade system.In terms of Chinese enterprises and entrepreneurs,China's top enterprises have experienced cruel jungle rules before they are supported by the state and go to the world.China's top enterprises are developing rapidly,and the United States is worried about them seizing emerging markets.China's stock market and currency,the stock market continued to fall,the RMB exchange rate continued to weaken.China's behavior in the process of Sino US trade disputes is to violate trade rules and refuse economic reform.
