The dispute of South China Sea between China and Philippines has been the focus of attention of China and the world. In recent years, China and the Philippines have many contradictions on the dispute of South China Sea, but the study of the dispute’s reports focused on the 2012 confrontation on the Huangyan Island events, but lack of overall analysis about post-2012 report. Philippines unilaterally submit the South China Sea to international arbitration in 2013, the dispute between China and Philippines on the South China Sea takes on a new form, but also attracted more worldwide attention. South China Sea issue related to national sovereignty and interests, it has an important significance to improve the level of our media reported on the South China Sea disputes, improving the dissemination of results, pass-Chinese voice to the world,and guiding international public opinion.In this paper, based on the news frame theory, using content analysis and comparative analysis, we select the report on the South China Sea dispute between China and Philippines on " People’s Daily " and "New York Times" in 2013 to 2015 for three years as samples, and analyze from aspects of the number of reports, theme, schematic structure, sources and tendentiousness, to compare the characteristics of the news frames built by the two newspapers.The study found that "People’s Daily" building up the China led Sovereignty framework,the theme of report is intended to highlight China’s sovereignty, emphasis on China’s expression of speech, pay more attention on remarks than actions, although showing a complete News schema structure, but the overall structure is stylized and simplification,lacking of the specific content of the Philippine. There are strict terms,and distinct emotional words on the report. The "New York Times" built up of multiple main event of conflict framework, performance-oriented action, highlighting the conflict between the two countries.There is a balanced structure, the sources in the Philippines and the United States dominated the source, multiple body. It implies a negative tendency of China in news discourse. In future reports, the "People’s Daily" as the representative of the Chinese media has to recognize thereports of the United States and other Western media rationally, drawing on the advantages and complement each other, expanding the coverage topics in multi-dimension, adjusting news discourse system, using balanced way of reporting, and build panoramic view of the schematic structure, showing the specific process, in order to better spread the voice of China to the world, to guide the international public opinion. |
