Internet and new media are arriving with an unstoppable trend.Traditional paper media has not yet recovered from the Internet war, while in the blink of an eye the public has switched from the habit of reading on computer screens to that of reading on smart phones. In this era of both opportunities and challenges,Chinese county-level Communist Party newspapers are experiencing the most painful transition period in the past 30 years.Under siege from traditional media and self-media at both county-and higher-levels,how can county-level Communist Party newspapers survive? This paper addresses the development model shifts of Kunshan Daily and Changshu Daily, two of the top-fours among Chinese county-level newspapers with methods of comparative analysis and interviews, and summarizes the problems prevalent among county-level Communist Party newspapers in media conveigence, analyzes the deep causes and proposes targeted countermeasures. This paper argues that county-level Communist Party newspqers should explore a user-centered transition in their practices of media convergence, adopt a online-plus-offline production model, accelerate the training of talents in view of their transformation, provide high-quality readable content and continue to be "the Voice of the Communist Party" in the age of new media, keep providing accurate and authoritative information, and strive towards the effective deep convergence of traditional and emerging media.By doing so,they can inject new vitality into their own development.
