Research On Textile Weekly

Textile Weekly is the first and only journal privately owned in modern China's textile industry.Closely related to people's livelihood,textile was one of the most important light industries in modern China.Textile journals contained a large number of industry information and technical introduction,which was of great importance to textile industry.Qian Guanyi,the founder of Textile Weekly who was devoted to the textile industry,once worked as an editor in the Chinese Cotton Millowners' Association in his early years and accumulated a rich experience in magazine publishing.The publication and distribution of textile periodicals in China began at the beginning of the 20 th century,and reached its peak in the 1930 s.It was under both the influence of Qian Guanyi's efforts and the background of establishment for the first issue of Textile Weekly in 1931.As a way for communicating textile-related information and a platform providing research materials in the 1930 s and 1940 s,Textile Weekly played an active role in promoting the development of China's textile industry.It not only provided valuable theories and experience for people to learn textile techniques and knowledge as well as company running,but also offered a wealth of first-hand information for researchers in textile and economic history.With Textile Weekly as its research focus,the present paper contains three sections:introduction,main body and conclusion.In the main body of the paper,this journal is discussed in the following five subsections: establishment background,process of development,basic information,relationship with the industry,and reporting characteristics.First of all,Textile Weekly was established during the "Journal Craze" in the 1930 s and the founding of China Textile Society.Second,Qian Guanyi initially left the Chinese Cotton Millowners' Association and founded Textile Weekly as a platform for China Textile Society to publish technical articles and make up for the shortcomings of Textile Times.Its readers at that time were mainly textile technologists.Later,for the lack of supporting and funds,as well as the occurrence of wars,the publication of Textile Weekly stopped for more than ten years.In 1946 with the help of China Textile Society,the Textile Weekly Society resumed the publication of this journal until 1949.The growth of Textile Weekly witnessed the survival and development of China's textile industry in the 1930 s and 1940 s.Third,this paper makes an introduction to Textile Weekly about its originand purpose,sources of fund,layout and columns,sources of contributions,circulation and audience,and holds that the journal was a communication media for members of China Textile Society,as well as a tool for textile technologists to safeguard their interests and express their value demands.Fourth,as the media of modern textile industry information,Textile Weekly screened the content of reports under the influence of the value demands,right pressure,public opinion atmosphere,cultural psychology and other factors of the representatives.Historical researchers were selective in writing historical facts,and there were differences in reporting economic events and technical works.Therefore,from the text content and typesetting column of Textile Weekly,the paper analyzes its report style,which is characterized by economy and technology.Then,it compares with Textile Times,a Textile journal in the same industry,in terms of report style,emphasis and value orientation of representative groups on the same historical event in order to discuss of Textile Weekly.Finally,this thesis reflected its industry position and analyzed its literature value for the current historical research,through the report of Textile Weekly on the historical events of cotton and wheat loan in 1933,the recovering and restoration of textile mills left by Japan in 1946 and the invention of China Textile and Construction Corporation's high draft in 1947.As an important trade journal in the modern time,Textile Weekly plays an important role in the development of modern Chinese textile industry.Had been providing both timely and valuable market information and advanced manufacturing technological information in domestic textile industry,it greatly promoted the information circulation within the textile circle.At the same time,the development of Textile Weekly is closely related to the rise and fall of China's textile industry,which conforms to the growth rule of law of China's modern industry.In addition,as the mouthpiece of China Textile Society,the public opinion guidance embodied in the report of Textile weekly highlights the views of China textile society on textile current affairs and textile industry,which represents the value demands of Chinese textile technologists as a whole.
