From 1970 to 1979,it was eight years that Sino-US relations have gone from freezing to confrontation to normalization of diplomatic relations. From hostilities to thawing, they have entered a period of stagnation.Finally,China-US relations have been normalized.During this period, the People's Daily became the mainstream of China. How does the media show the relationship between discourses during this period? After collecting research on Sino-US relations and media,it is found that most of the literature only stays at the level of national image analysis that influences Sino-US relations or media presentation. There is still no analysis of the relationship between media presentation and discourse in this period. This article hopes to explore the change of discourse in the media through the study of the characteristics of news discourse in this period. In the analysis of the historical data of the "People's Daily",we have explored the appearance and changes of Sino-US relations to provide useful historical data documents for news research in the increasingly closely related international activities.During the course of the research,it was found that these nine stages of China-US development have different characteristics at different stages. In order to grasp the change of discourse in the media more clearly,it is divided into three stages. They are:From 1970 to 1973,hostilities reached the thawing period.During this period,Sino-US relations have changed from freezing to thawing due to changes in the international situation and national interests. However, considering that the country is still in the struggle against imperialism and revisionism, although diplomatic relations with the United States have also resumed, conflicts of interest still exist.Taking into account the limitations of various aspects, the frequency of negative tendencies was adjusted in the reporting of important events. At that time, the People's Daily reportedon the United States: it was neither cold nor hot,nor humble. In this stage,Nixon's visit to China with important historical status will be selected as a typical discourse study.Thawing to stagnation from 1974-1977.During this period, due to the stagnation and even regression of development between China and the United States in their respective domestic affairs, and the lack of mutual benefits of cooperation, the People's Daily reported a decline in the number of reports and a single genre when reporting on Sino-US relations. However, there is still a little progress in the whole.During President Ford's visit to China, the first sports report appeared. This subtle and low-key agenda setting is a reflection of the advancement of Sino-US relations. From 1978 to 1979,the stagnation was reduced to normalization.China's reform and opening up in 1978 also provided new ideas for the development of Sino-US relations. This is beyond national strategic security, and always regards the creation of an international environment conducive to China's reform and opening up and the promotion of domestic reform and opening up policies as the basic standpoint. It considers the issue of China-US diplomatic relations from the perspective of domestic development. Our country has begun to take the initiative in diplomacy.Compared with the previous two stages, the length, quantity, and genre of the report has increased exponentially, and it also shows that political propaganda is moving toward political communication. This dissertation intends to use a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to use news discourse to analyze the Sino-US relations from 1970 to1979 in the People's Daily report to construct the discourse changes under the reality and guided ideology.
