In the information age,the development of Internet technology on the one hand has made the information exchange between people more convenient, which has brought great convenience to people's production and life, but at the same time has also provided convenience for the dissemination of false information. The prosperous development of social media and the rapid rise of the media industry have lowered the threshold for public voices, and the number of false information on the Internet has surged. In addition, the forms of false information are becoming more and more diverse, resulting in increased difficulty in identifying false information.Due to the popularity of mobile terminals such as mobile phones, college students can access a lot of network information every day,but they lack the ability to distinguish the true and false information. As the pillars of the country, college students' ability to prevent false information needs to be improved.Academic libraries that shoulder the responsibilities of education, information services, and personnel training should take the lead in the prevention and control of false information, and accumulate experience in the prevention and treatment of false information across the country. This study first introduces the main functions and tasks of academic libraries,as well as the concept, characteristics and management methods of false information. Then, through online queries and literature surveys, the measures taken by the top 100 universities in the United States to prevent and counterfeit information were investigated, and 19 academic libraries with targeted measures for the prevention and control of counterfeit information were screened out.The better measures are also introduced in detail. Then we investigated the situation of false information prevention in the libraries of 42 "double first-class" universities in China. The results showed that the investigated domestic academic libraries lacked targeted measures to prevent false information, but Chinese academic libraries pay more attention to information literacy Education.Although the information literacy education provided focuses on information retrieval,it can also play a certain indirect role in the prevention of false information.According to the comparison of the prevention and control of false information between Chinese and American academic libraries, this study discusses the necessity and feasibility of the prevention and control of false information in academic libraries, and points out the advantages and disadvantages of the prevention and control of false information in Chinese academic libraries: The advantage is that China's university libraries attach great importance to information literacy education, and the forms of information literacy education are abundant. The disadvantages are as follows:(1)The degree of attention to the prevention and treatment of false information needs to be improved, and there is a lack of special false information prevention education;(2)Information literacy education focuses on information retrieval, lacking the content of identifying and evaluating information;(3)The information resources of academic libraries are not fully utilized in the prevention of false information;(4)Failure to provide adequate technical support to prevent false information.Besides, some corresponding suggestions are also provided:(1)It is necessary to enhance the sense of responsibility and importance attached to false information prevention education in academic libraries, learn from the experience of the United States, and carry out false information prevention education based on their own conditions;(2)Supplement the content of false information prevention in the existing various forms of information literacy education;(3)Strengthen the construction of false information prevention resources to provide protection for false information prevention;(4)Actively cooperate with various industries to jointly develop and provide practical tools to prevent false information.
