Domestic scholars' research on discourse of the South China Sea issue mainly focuses on traditional media, but there are few studies on new Internet media such as WeChat and Weibo. This paper uses the theory of media discourse analysis to explore what discourse strategies the mainstream media will use to maintain national sovereignty and compete for international discourse rights in the face of foreign-related disputes on social media platforms. In addition,in this process, there are similarities and differences between local communication and the characteristics of external media discourse. On the Weibo platform, the People's Daily published the total amount and frequency of the People's Daily. The attitudes and methods changed with the progress of the incident. The media has a certain bias towards the construction of media images in other countries. The topic “China can't lose even a tiny piece of its territory”completed a topic "top-down" spread. On the Twitter platform, the People's Daily used the international platform to actively carry out external communication. The total volume and frequency of the release changed with the event process. The dialogue with the United States,Japan, and the Philippines was “confrontational” ?“advised”?“From confrontation to discussion'.The media has constructed reality through meaningful vocabulary choices. The high-frequency words of the South China Sea issue revolve around sovereignty and arbitration and express the position of the official media. The vocabulary classification of the country in question reflects the difference between “we” and “the other”,manifested as a positive self-presentation and a negative other. The metaphor in the South China Sea issue simplifies complex discourse, and the South China Sea issue expresses a firm stance through the use of modal verbs.Use discourse description to transform the official language into popular language, use pre-hypothesis and negation to realize the competition for the right to speak of the sovereignty of the South China Sea,and use the meta-discourse and sarcasm to achieve the response to the "other".The People's Daily account on Twitter is more proactive and frequently publishing “Nanhai” related content than the People's Daily account on Sina Weibo.Although the official accounts have similar themes for publishing content on domestic and foreign platforms, the dissemination focus at home and abroad is different when it is distributed. This difference is related to their audience and communication purposes. Finally,in terms of language style, the tone of the People's Daily on Twitter is more formal and objective, and the language on Sina Weibo will be more intimate and playful.Faced with the game of political power and discourse power, the People's Daily has played a certain role in expressing China's position and competing for international discourse rights on social platforms at home and abroad, but it still lacks certain strength in foreign platforms..In the future,China still needs to control the international discourse rights on the construction of islands and reefs through timely and proactive information dissemination and dissemination and setting of issues, and guide the international community's public opinion trend in the construction of islands and reefs.
