Big Data Capability And Firm Supply Chain Agility

With the rapidly development of information technology,the turbulent changes in the external environment,and increasing diversified demand,enterprises are turning their sights on supply chain agility.In the meantime,the emerging technologies,such as the Internet of Things,Cloud Computing and Big Data,gradually penetrate into supply chain and operations management to provide supports for the timely reaction of member Enterprises in supply chain.However,for the purpose of adapting to the complex and dynamic environment,whether the big data projects can improve Firm supply chain agility is still one of the enterprises' priorities.Therefore,based on Resource-based theory and Dynamic Capability Theory,this study constructs a theoretical framework of Big Data Capability,Strategy Orientation and Environment Uncertainty.A structural equation and multiple regression analysis are performed to test the hypotheses.Finally,based on the theoretical deductions and empirical analysis,some effective suggestions are presented on how to improve Firm supply chain agility from the matching perspective of Big Data Application with Strategy Orientation and Environment Uncertainty.This paper includes six parts.The first part introduces the research background and significance,research content,research approaches and innovation point.The second part teases out some basic theories including Resource-based Theory,Dynamic Capability Theory,and summarizes prior researches.The third part explores the relationship between the variables and puts forward research hypotheses.The fourth part describes the research questionnaire design process,and pilot study results.The fifth part is the empirical analysis on the effect of Big Data Capability on Enterprise Supply Chain Agility.The study use SMART PLS2.0 to verify hypotheses,and next adopt multiple regression analysis to testify the moderating effect of Environment Uncertainty.Finally,the paper summarizes the conclusions and presents the managerial implications,and points out some shortcomings and future directions.This paper includes the following conclusions:(1)Big Data Capability affects Firm Supply Chain Agility positively;(2)Strategic Orientation moderate the relationship between big data capabilities and firm supply chain agility partly.In contrast with Defenders,Prospectors' big data management and human resources capability have the more significant influence on Firm Supply Chain Agility.(3)Environment Uncertainty can significantly moderate the relationship between Big Data Capability and Firm supply chain agility.This paper has the following implications:(1)from the perspective of strategic orientation,this paper analyzes the impact of big data capabilities on supply chain agility,provides a new research direction for enterprises to improve the supply chain agility.(2)This paper elaborates the theoretical and empirical research on big data capabilities from the three dimensions of big data infrastructure capabilities,big data management capabilities and big data human resource capabilities,further clarifying the connotation and composition dimensions of big data capabilities,and deepening the theoretical and empirical research ofChinese context on big data capabilities;(3)This paper explores the relationship between big data capabilities and firm supply chain agility through theoretical and empirical research based on the research of IT capabilities,provides a more concrete guidance for enterprises to improve the agility of firm supply chain from the perspective of big data capabilities.
