The metropolitan area transport network is an important network for providing information transmission platforms for various service networks of communication operators.With the explosive development of data services and multimedia services represented by 4G,the transmission network construction must meet the growing bandwidth needs of the business development forcommunication operators.Following the evolution trend of all-IPnetwork,PTN network with packet transmission technology as the core technology is one of the two transmission network solutions in parallel with IPRAN technology.It has been widely adopted by China Mobile,one of the three major operators in China.The evolution and replacement of the SDH network using PTN is an important part of the carrier's local transmission network.In the studied city,the expansion and transformation of its mobile PTN network will provide the most basic guarantee for the development of its mobile future business,promoting the improvement of overall network performance,improving user satisfaction,and continuously increasing value for business operations.This dissertation was based on my experience in participating in the project of PTN expansion design and implementation.Firstly,the dissertationexplains the background of the PTN expansion project and introduces the research status of the transmission network from domestic and overseas.Several major mainstream transmission technologies are also compared with their advantages and disadvantages which provides the theoretical fundation for this work.Then,based on the detailed analysis on the current mobile PTN network in the city plus the bandwidth traffic forecasting of the relevant professional business development,the bandwidth that needs to be added is determined.A complete set of solutions is given for the expansion and transformation plan of the PTN network,including the core network,aggregation level,network management system,device synchronization etc.The problems of fewer aggregation nodes,insufficient network coverage,and insufficient loop bandwidth of current network is to be solved in the project design.In order for the project to be implemented successfully,the national and industry standards are carefully followed.Based on a detailed study on the technical and quality requirements,the strigent requirements on equipment type,installation specification,safety operation and network security are given.After the project is completed,different tests including the PTN equipment single-machine test and network joint test have been carried out and test results show that all the indicators meet the requirements.Moreover,from the actual operation of the PTN network after expansion,it is found that the project achieved the expected results where the increased network capacity and service configuration capability have been obtained.Some loops with high bandwidth usgage before the project have reduced their network usage down to 60% and below where the peak network usage is now within the controllable level of the loop.Although this dissertationfocuses on the engineering design and demonstration for the PTN networkexpansion and reconstruction design,the requirements on the quality,technology and security in network construction can be universal,and may be used as references for upgrading work of other types of transmission network.
