With the development of the times, the fierce network growth compels the communication operators to re-appraise the business plan, profitability and development of new products. On one hand, the growth of the voice service is relatively flat, but its profit margin keeps declining. Meanwhile, the continuous offering of voice service is a significant approach of obtaining the capital source. However, communication operators must achieve the data service and business structure of higher profit, and try to attract and retain customers with the added-value for improving the profitability. On the other hand, users expect the qualitative leap in the access ability of communication network. Therefore, the metropolitan transmission network required by the communication operators shall be equipped with innovative network architecture, topological structure and higher safety performance. Since the growing bandwidth application amount may bring the jam of metropolitan transmission network, the new solution is to improve the bandwidth capacity of the metropolitan transmission network and capacity of transmitting the big data. From the perspective of physics, it mainly aims to increase the network bandwidth and enhance the network security with network optimization and transformation. The optimization of the metropolitan transmission networks aims to reach the requirements on the secure and stable network with high speed and standard in low cost. The optimized metropolitan transmission network has more evident advantages in dealing with the varying communication mode and network faults, and it not only lowers the operation cost, but also optimizes the network resources. The optimized metropolitan transmission network is more applicable for the development of future communication industry, and it aims to help communication operators to gain success in the current telecommunication market.In this paper, the optimized principle of the metropolitan transmission network is proposed, the process of the optimization of metropolitan transmission network is made, and the optimization of the metropolitan transmission network is discussed. Afterwards, the problems confronted by the metropolitan transmission network are summarized according to the analysis of the current status of local network, and meanwhile, the new plans for the design and optimization of metropolitan transmission network, as well as the bearer service are put forward.The new design and optimization plan of the metro transmission network proposed is based on the study of the traditional optimization of packet transport network(PTN) network of metro transmission network, and the new plan for the PTN network optimization is put forward. Meanwhile, the new plan for the increase of nodes in the optical transport network(OTN) convergence layer and optical line terminal(OLT) device connection are proposed through the study on the design and optimization of OTN network.The network optimization is carried out for the practice object according to the theoretical basis of the new design and optimization plan of the metro transport network, and meanwhile, test in bandwidth and protection performance is conducted for the optimized network. The results verify that the optimized network reaches the purpose of optimization, satisfies the demand of users, and proves the application value of the innovative optimization plan for the metro transport network.
