China Mobile Communications Corporation(CMCC)leads the construction of LTE network in mainland China. As the completion of the signal full-area coverage,CMCC steers its focuses from the signal coverage to the enhancement of user perception, from eliminating coverage blind spots to drilling on the coverage depth and levels of the network hot spots.Therefor explosive growth and the increases of the scale and complexity of the network is predicted and higher quality of network optimization effort is required. As the new feature proposed by 3GPP,SON(Self-Organizing/Optimizing Network)function is assumed to play an important and essential role in the process of the network construction and optimization, which will reduce manpower, lift efficiency and improve the network quality. In this paper, based on the commercial LTE network of Shanghai CMCC,we introduce the current situation and development trend of the LTE network, analyze the network optimization problems and then draw up the solution of the deployment of the SON platform to meet the need of the increasing scale and complexity demand.Deployment of the SON platform consists of three steps.Firstly we complete the deployment of the hardware and software of the SON platform.Secondly we select 6 basic SON features separately to verify its validity and reliability, implement a grid-scale site-cluster evaluation, especially focusing on application strategy on present network scenarios,in order to maximize the SON platform effect.Thirdly from point to plane,we implement a region-scale site-cluster test to conduct an overall evaluation and optimization. With the SON platform, network quality and user perception improve, costs reduce and expected effect achieve.
