With the acceleration of social rhythm and the significant intensification of all kinds of social conflicts,people's mental health problems frequently come into public view.In 2001,the world health organization(WHO)pointed out in its world health report that depression has become the fourth most serious disease in the world,seriously affecting human health and happiness.The report of depression by mass media greatly influences the attitude and understanding of the public,as well as the direction of public opinion and policy concern.In this paper,starting from the perspective of comparative journalism,by the People's Daily and the New York times reports from 2001 to 2018,issues related to depression as sample,comparing the characteristics of both reports and reporting framework,in an effort to fully understand the depression between the two issues of different reporting rules,on the basis of excavating intrinsic reasons for differences.It is hoped that it will play a positive role in promoting the health communication practice of domestic media in the future and improve the reporting level of depression in China.Study found that the People's Daily and the New York times reported-in patients with depression and more using the message of this genre,both present situation and the development of depression had greater attention,the impact of the input source in the doctor leading experts and official authority,the average patient say the missing phenomenon in People's Daily reported performance is more obvious.The People's Daily and the New York times show obvious differences in the use of reporting framework.When using attribution framework,the former gives an overview of the reporting content,while the latter pays more attention to the presentation of details.When the consequence frame is used,the former one reports phenomenally,while the latter one reports eventfully.For the caring framework,the former is relatively single,while the latter is more diversified.For the therapeutic framework,the former mostly uses life language,while the latter mostly uses medical discourse.China and the United States have different social environments,cultural backgrounds and media systems,which are important reasons for the differences in depression topic reports between People's Daily and the New York times.Based on the above analysis and summary,the study found that it is a prerequisite to improve the coverage level of depression issues in the media of the two countries.However,if Chinese media want to be more professional and scientific in their future reports,they still need to make more efforts in using the news framework rationally,balance the professionalism and readability of news reports,and enrich the sources of news information.
